Cyprus Travel Guide

Reading Time: 2 mins

We recently explored Cyprus and stayed at the peaceful Malama Beach Holiday Village and some other villas — quiet, scenic, and just a short drive from vibrant resorts and towns. Here’s a quick guide with all you need to know before booking your trip — from flights and SIM cards to rental cars and hidden gems.

Flights to Cyprus

Cyprus has two main international airports:

  • Larnaca International Airport (LCA) – Best for eastern coast destinations like Ayia Napa, Protaras, and Malama.
  • Paphos International Airport (PFO) – Great for the western part like Paphos, Coral Bay, and Akamas Peninsula.

Use MyTrip.com or Trip.com to compare flights and get the best deals.

Getting Around the Island

Cyprus is best explored by car. Public transport is limited outside big cities.

  • DiscoverCars – Huge selection and long cookie lifetime (great for bloggers).
  • Localrent – Perfect if you want to rent from smaller local companies.
  • Rentalcars.com – Easy comparison across global brands.
  • GetTransfer.com – For transfers from the airport or between cities.

Pro tip: Some villages have narrow roads and limited parking. We used Google Maps for coordinates.

Where to Stay

Cyprus offers everything from beachfront resorts to budget apartments.

  • Best value towns: Protaras, Larnaca, and Polis.
  • Luxury hotspots: Ayia Napa, Limassol, Paphos.

Check out:

  • Booking.com – The easiest way to book in English with lots of filters.
  • Vrbo or Agoda – Great alternatives for vacation homes.
  • Tripadvisor – For reviews and unique stays.

We stayed at Malama Beach, close to both nature and nightlife — highly recommended!

SIM Cards & Internet

For affordable internet:

  • Yesim – Swiss-based eSIM provider, perfect for instant activation.
  • Airalo – Popular among digital nomads.
  • Drimsim – One SIM for 190+ countries if you’re planning to travel more.

Travel Insurance

Don’t skip it — healthcare in Cyprus can be expensive.

Must-See Places

  • Famagusta (ghost city and golden beaches)
  • Ayia Napa – Nightlife and stunning coastline
  • Cape Greco – Sea caves and hiking trails
  • Troodos Mountains – Wine villages and pine forests
  • Paphos – Ancient ruins and sunsets

Book experiences:

  • GetYourGuide or Viator – For tours, boat rides, and local adventures
  • Tiqets – If you’re visiting museums or attractions
  • Go City – For city passes (if available in Cyprus soon)

Bonus Tips

  • Car rental: Always check if your hotel has parking
  • Grocery shopping: Lidl and Papantoniou are budget-friendly
  • Weather: March–June and Sept–Nov are perfect for mild temps and fewer crowds
